Fall Fun in Johnsburg

Autumn is beautiful in Gore Region, but checking out the changing leaves and mountaintop views is only one of the great fall activities that draws visitors to the area. From family-friendly festivals to riding through the spectacular seasonal foliage on one of Revolution Rail’s railbikes, there’s as much to do in Johnsburg as there is to see.

Gore Mountain Harvest Fest

You won’t want to miss the annual Gore Mountain Harvest Fest, taking place this year on October 12th and October 13th, 2019. Admission is free, and each day from 10 am until 4:30 pm, the festival offers live music, hearty fall food and refreshing beverages, and entertainment and activities for all ages.

Harvest Fest-goers can leaf-peep during a scenic gondola ride, climb a rock wall, or give ziplining a try. If keeping your feet on the ground is more your speed, take a walk through the slopeside shops featuring over 90 vendors and artisans. Little ones have their pick of bounce houses, face painting, magic shows, balloon animals, pony rides, a petting zoo, and more.

This is definitely an event the whole family will love. But, please leave your four-legged best friends at home, as attendees are asked to refrain from bringing dogs to the festival.

Revolution Rail

Railbiking on Revolution Rail offers a unique opportunity for visitors to get up close and personal with the fall colors of the forests while pedaling through them on the tracks of the historic North Creek Railroad. All riders check in at the North Creek Railroad Station, then take a 5-minute shuttle ride to the tour’s launch point a few miles outside of town. There, tour guides provide riders with a safety briefing before kicking off the 2-hour excursion.

Railbikers will explore six miles of breathtaking scenery as the railway winds through treetops, alongside the Hudson River, and across a gorgeous trestle bridge. Both quad bikes, with seating for four passengers, and tandem bikes, with seating for two, are available.

Railbiking is suitable for all ages and a broad range of abilities. There’s no minimum age requirement, and riders are encouraged to enjoy the tour at a leisurely pace. Infants and toddlers can ride in front-facing baby carriers with an adult, or toddlers with the ability to sit upright can use a 5-point harness supplied by Revolution Rail. Children 4-years-old and up can sit in their own seats using the standard seatbelt.

If you haven’t experienced Revolution Rail yet, fall in the Adirondacks is the perfect time to come see what it’s all about.
