Holiday Fun in Gore Region

Looking for some fun winter holiday events to get you and your family into the seasonal spirit? Gore Region has you covered!

Lights on in Johnsburg NY is an annual month-long celebration featuring multiple holiday-themed activities held in the Town of Johnsburg during December. And, the best part is that several of these events are taking place this weekend, meaning you won’t have to wait long to join in the festivities!

2019 Lights On In Johnsburg NY Schedule of Events

Friday, December 6, 2019

11am – 3pm: Holiday Open House at Community Bank

Carrying on a thirty-year-long tradition, join bank employees as they serve punch, refreshments – including homemade desserts – and holiday spirit!

11:45am – 12:15pm: Johnsburg Central School (JCS) Pop Singers at Elderwood

The JCS Pop Singers will be performing for residents of Elderwood at North Creek. Other community members are welcome to attend.

5:30pm – 6:30pm: Community Tree Lighting & Candlelight Service

For over two decades, this event has been a staple for kicking off the holiday season in Johnsburg. Businesses are encouraged to decorate with white lights, natural greenery, and red bows, and all are asked to turn their “Lights On” beginning at 5pm to mark the start of the holidays in Gore Region. The event features comments from local elected officials, speeches by local pastors, an appearance by Mrs. Claus, caroling led by Katy Cole and the Johnsburg Central School Pop Singers, and, of course, a ceremonial tree lighting.

In case of chilly weather, The Depot Museum will have the Owens House available as a warming hut for attendees.

6:30pm – 7pm: Light Up the Night Parade to Tannery Pond

A parade of floats, carolers, and other festivity-goers (Mrs.Claus among them) will begin after the Tree Lighting and move along Main Street before arriving at Tannery Pond Community Center. All community members are welcome to take part!

7pm – 8:30pm: Visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus 

Immediately following the Tree Lighting and Parade, bring the kids to Tannery Pond Community Center for a special visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus! Santa will have small gifts for each child attending, and this is a great opportunity to get a photo of your little ones with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Treats and refreshments will be provided, courtesy of area restaurants and local bakers.

Saturday, December 7, 2019

7am – 11am: Breakfast with Santa

The North Creek Fire Company will host their annual Breakfast with Santa, featuring pancakes with syrup, scrambled eggs, sausage or bacon, juice, and coffee or tea. Breakfast prices are $8 per adult and $5 for children ages 4-11. Children 3 and under are free.

Each child will receive a small gift from Santa. It’s not necessary to purchase breakfast in order for children to visit with Santa.

9am – 2pm: Christmas Bazaar

The North River Methodist Church is hosting a Christmas Bazaar with local vendors offering handmade crafts, jewelry, Christmas ornaments, baked goods, hand-painted cards, knitted, crocheted & sewn Items such as mittens, slippers, pillows, table runners, and more. This is a perfect opportunity to find one-of-a-kind gifts, and proceeds benefit the North River United Methodist Church.

12pm – 12:30pm: 23rd Lights On Christmas Parade

The 23rd annual Lights On Christmas Parade will travel down Main Street in North Creek, ending at the Town of Johnsburg Highway Garage. Parade participants are encouraged to visit the Elderwood Nursing and Rehab Center on Route 28 in costume to brighten the residents’ day. Santa and Mrs. Claus will also pay a visit to Elderwood at the end of the parade.

Main Street businesses will be offering refreshments following the event. There will also be Christmas tree sales, wine samplings, chocolate offerings, hot mulled cider, and cookies for everyone.

Community members are encouraged to join in the parade. If you or your organization is interested in being part of the Christmas parade, feel free to simply show up Saturday at 11:30am at Johnsburg Central School and you’ll be given a spot in line!

7pm – 9pm: North Country Singers Present “A Holiday Celebration”

Jumpstart your holiday cheer with a free concert at Tannery Pond showcasing the North Country Singers, JCS Jazz Band and Pop Singers, Newcomb Central School Bell Tree Ensemble, story reader Robin Jay, opera singer Christine Powers, and the Guiding Steps North dancers.

Donations are suggested. Proceeds benefit Adirondack Community Outreach Center.

8am – 4pm: PTO Craft Fair

Come support talented local crafters and other vendors at this one day only event held in the Johnsburg Central School gym.

10:30am – 12:30pm: JYC Ski Swap and Sale

Outfit your family with all the winter gear they need at bargain prices -alpine and cross country skis, snowboards, boots, poles, goggles, and more. Prices are intentionally low to help locals, especially children, afford what they need to take advantage of Gore Mountain and other Gore Region outdoor recreation.

Donations of gently used equipment are appreciated (no outdated or old gear please). Bring gear to donate to the JCS Cafetorium at 10:30-12, Dec. 14th, or contact Trena and Shea Riedinger to drop off items before the event at 518-251-3263 or robsmtn7@frontiernet.net  Proceeds benefit the Johnsburg Youth Committee.

11am – 1pm: Gingerbread House Workshop

The Town of Johnsburg Library will hold its annual Gingerbread House Workshop. Register to decorate a gingerbread house for your family. All necessary items are supplied, but participants are welcome to bring any special candies that your family may prefer. but if there are specific candies you prefer you are Call (518) 251-4343 to reserve your spot!

1pm – 3pm: Santa Claus is Coming to Town

Bring the family to see Santa come down the ski hill at the North Creek Ski Bowl and then rides through town on fire trucks to Johnsburg Central School. Kids can follow the fire trucks to the school for a chance to visit with Santa and get a free goodie bag of fruits and sweets
