Ski season is in full swing in Gore Region! We’ve gathered details on just a few of the upcoming special events for both downhill and cross-country skiers looking to hit the trails in the Town of Johnsburg.

The historic North Creek Ski Bowl in North Creek, NY is located at the base of Little Gore, one of Gore Mountain’s four peaks. The Ski Bowl doubles as a community recreation complex and is the site of Gore’s Nordic Ski Center.

For six Tuesdays in a row, beginning Tuesday, January 14, 2020, the North Creek Ski Bowl will host Ski Bowl Citizen Nights, a series of Nordic Ski community races for skiers of all ages and experience levels.

The races take place under the lights, and participants are eligible for a variety of prizes raffled off at the end of each night. Anyone can take part in any or all of the six-race nights – there’s no requirement to participate in all events in the series.

This is a fun, non-competitive way to meet fellow cross-country skiers and enjoy some extra time on the snow!

Artful Après Ski

Tannery Pond Center is hosting “Artful Après Ski” on Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. at its Widlund Art Gallery located at 228 Main Street in North Creek. Coffee, tea, and cocoa will be served.

January 21, 2020, through January 26, 2020, is Take Your Kids to Gore Week. Kids 19 and under can ski or ride for free with a full-paying parent all week! This special offer also applies to the cross-country ski and snowshoe network at the North Creek Ski Bowl.

Gore season pass holders, four-pack holders, and Empire cardholders are considered full-paying adults in this instance and are welcome to participate in this promotion. You can learn more about Take Your Kids to Gore Week on Gore Mountain’s website.

Garnet Hill Lodge in North River is home to a premier Nordic ski center and adjacent to the Siamese Ponds Wilderness Area. Nearly 40 miles of mapped and marked trails make it an ideal base for backcountry skiing in the Adirondacks.

The HURT Mega Relay is a 6-hour-long team relay event being held at the Garnet Hill Lodge’s Outdoor Center on January 25, 2020. Teams of 3-8 skiers will compete to see how many laps of the 5K race loop can be completed within the 6-hour event duration.

Each team member must complete at least one loop. Skiers of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate. Accommodations will be made for skiers in different age groups. For example, each loop completed by team members who are ages 13-15 or older than 45 will count as 1.5 laps for their team, and each loop completed by 65+ skiers counts as 2 laps. Children 12 and under can ski laps simultaneously, meaning 5 kids skiing one loop together would count as 5 laps.

For skiers who register for the event online, the cost per skier to participate is $25 for those over 13 years old and $12 for those under 13. Registration costs increase by $5 for those who register on the day of the race. Registration/check-in opens at 9:00am, with the race running from 10:00am through 4:00pm.
