The Gore Region is the sweet spot of The Adirondacks. We’ve rounded up some of the top locations to visit with your Valentine. Whether they are your significant other, best friend, kids or dog – The Gore Region has something for everyone!
You can’t have Valentine’s Day without chocolate and Barkeater Chocolates is the best in the region! They have specialty chocolate that is gift-wrapped for the holiday so all you have to do is stop in and pick it up. Some of their chocolates include peanut butter cups, barks, bars, truffles and more, available in white, milk or dark chocolate. And yes, they have samples in the store!
If you’re looking for something more hands-on, sign up you and your Valentine for a private chocolate-making experience. The session goes for two hours and starts with a bit of the chocolate back story: Where do cacao beans come from? What exactly is bloom? Then you’re off to the demo kitchen where you’ll be able to make your own chocolate treats. There will plenty of sweets to go around!
Hudson River Trading Company
If you’re on the hunt for the perfect gift that is unique to your loved one, then look no further than the Hudson River Trading Company. This beautifully curated, two-floor shop located on Main Street in the heart of downtown North Creek has something for everyone. They offer a wide range of rustic home furnishes and decor, Adirondack themed gifts and literature, women and men’s clothing, jewelry, children’s clothing, toys and books, gifts for your furbabies and so much more!
Owner Laurie Prescott Arnheiter has a deep knowledge of The Gore Region and would love to chat with you about your stay. Her family purchased the property in 1995. It was built back in 1898!. The shop is gorgeously maintained with peeks from the past around every corner. Ask Laurie to point them out!
Tannery Pond Center
Is your Valentine an art lover? Tannery Pond Center has a beautiful exhibit up until February 26th featuring artists of the Upper Hudson River Watercolor Society. Watercolor is a romantic medium in and of itself, and seeing it against the backdrop of this vibrant community center is a real treat.
If you’re in the region for Valentine’s Day weekend, Tannery Pond Center is hosting North Country Jazz Project at 7:30 pm on February 15th. The North Country Jazz Project is a group of musicians from the Glens Falls and southern Adirondacks who have worked professionally in the music business throughout their careers. The group focuses on big band arrangements from a wide spectrum of music, including Swing, Bebop, Fusion, Latin, Funk, and Motown.
Basil & Wick’s
When thinking about where to go for dinner, we suggest a reservation at Basil & Wick’s. For Valentine’s Day, they are offering their full menu as well as some great appetizer, dinner, dessert and drink specials!
All of their food is delicious but we are big fans of their Guinness Onion Soup, Grilled Eggplant Ratatouille and any of their super fresh salads. In addition, they offer more than 35 wine selections and a choice of over 30 beers as well as locally handcrafted ales.
Their interior features warm traditional Adirondack touches. It is clean and open with a few retro surprises. Placed throughout the restaurant are mural vignettes depicting North Creek area activities and real people back in “the day” of the original Basil & Wick’s.
The restaurant and the lodge both provide a warm, glowing ambiance that makes the perfect setting for your cozy Valentine’s Day dinner.
Another option for dinner and drinks is barVino. Located on Main Street, barVino cultivates a warm and intimate atmosphere for dinner and drinks and with your Valentine. Whether you want to sample their selection of Belgian beers or enjoy a leisurely dinner by the fireplace or have a glass of wine while listening to live jazz, this 21+ venue is the perfect spot for a cozy date night.
Ski Bowl Twilight
Looking for something a little more non-traditional for your Valentine? How about hitting the slopes at North Creek Ski Bowl under their Twilight runs? The trails are lit up in the evening for a unique and magical excursion down the mountain. If you prefer snowshoeing or cross-country skiing, those trails are open as well.
You can even stay the night on the property in the rustic Ski Bowl Village. Ski Bowl Village is the only Ski-In / Ski-Out residential development on Gore Mountain. Located directly adjacent to Gore in the Historic North Creek Ski Bowl, homeowners will enjoy the luxury of leaving the car in the driveway while enjoying the slopes.
Goose Pond B&B
If a quaint bed and breakfast is more your style, we suggest Goose Pond Inn. Not only are the rooms bright and welcoming, but they are located right on Main Street in North Creek. Bonus: They are dog-friendly! You can bring your furry friend for a weekend getaway and walks on the trails.
The Inn reflects North Creek itself, it’s full of historic charm while bringing you the amenities of home – complete with delicious home-cooked meals. You can book a regular stay or a ski and stay package since Gore Mountain is just 5 minutes away.
This just a small cross-section of all that awaits you and your Valentine in The Gore Region! We hope you’ll choose to spend your special day (or weekend!) with us.
